Jeremy Lasky
Design Director, Perception

“I don’t like to be flashy, or trendy, or have the need to use the latest filter,” says Perception Design Director Jeremy Lasky.  “I strive for timeless design."

Lasky has worked as a Senior Art Director at R/GA and Gotham where he worked on accounts including The Independent Film Channel/Bravo, and Roadrunner/Time Warner. He began freelancing, creating high-profile broadcast design work for clients such as ESPN, ESPN Classic, Nickelodeon, and the NBA, and at the end of 2001, Lasky worked as a designer on director Godfrey Reggio's Miramax Films release, Naqoyqatsi.

Re-teaming with his former R/GA colleagues Brendan Werner and Daniel Gonzalez, Lasky co-founded Perception.  “I’ve always been commended on being highly perceptive,” says Lasky.  “I remember being up for a job once and the interviewer complimented me on that quality, and I thought, ‘what a great name for a company.’  Changing people’s perception is what good designers and good visual artists should aspire to do.” As a child Lasky was something of an amateur magician.  “And in a way, I still am."

Daniel Gonzalez
Effects Director, Perception

“I consider special effects good when they’re invisible,” says Perception Effects Director Daniel Gonzalez. “When I see a movie and the compositing is noticeable, it just ruins the illusion for me.”

In 1994, Gonzalez joined R/GA and enjoyed a steep ascent through the ranks, where he met Perception co-founders Brendan Werner and Jeremy Lasky. Speaking of his experiences as an effects editor, he says: “I thought it might be difficult learning the interactive side from broadcast, but found the opposite is true. “Most of the web people don’t understand motion.”

While new media won’t be Perception’s main focus, the company intends to apply their unique business model to that side of the industry as well. Gonzalez, who speaks fluent Spanish, visits family in Spain in the summer. He and his wife, Marisa, live in Queens. The couple had their first child Francesca in July 2002 and expect a second in July 2005.

Brendan Werner
Editorial Director, Perception

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Werner graduated from Boston University, where he majored in Broadcast and Film, then moved to New York City. Following a brief stint as a Production Assistant at ABC covering the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Werner landed at R/GA as a P.A. Werner’s four-year climb at R/GA from Production Assistant to Avid Editor took him from the video library to the machine room to a stint as a special effects assistant.

Werner’s fingerprints were left on virtually every commercial that came through the company’s legendary broadcast studio got to work with some of the best commercial directors, special effects artists, and graphic designers in the country. Werner remains proudest of are a Saturday Night Live opening credit sequence, several Dodge campaigns, and opening titles for Cronkite Remembers.

After R/GA closed its Broadcast Studio in January 2000, Werner freelanced at design studio Trollbäck & Company and film titles giant Imaginary Forces. Prior to perception, Werner also worked with R/GA’s Broadband department.

David Herbruck & Beat Baudenbacher
Directors of Loyalkasper

Beat Baudenbacher
Director, Loyalkaspar

Raised in a household that encouraged art and creativity in all its forms – both his mother and brother are professional artists – Beat Baudenbacher took his love of art and innate sense of design to the prestigious Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA. From there joined The Attik, New York, before becoming Art Director at Liquid Design Group (LDG), which in 2001 changes its name to UV and in 2002 merged with Phactory to become UV Phactory. In July 2003, he founded Loyalkasparwith partner David Herbruck with the goal of not creating just another broadcast design studio, but a creative hub where talented people in all disciplines would be welcome.

In addition to his award-winning design work, Baudenbacher co-wrote and co-directed the short film, What Remains, with his brother Felix, which premiered in St. Gallen and Trogen, Switzerland. His stories and poems have been featured in numerous Swiss publications as well as TDC-46, the publication of the Type Directors Club. Baudenbacher and partner David Herbruck completed their first screenplay, East of (T)here, which they plan to produce and direct themselves.

David Herbruck
Director, Loyalkaspar

David Herbruck brings a decade of production experience at some of the top creative companies in the US to Loyalkaspar. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Herbruck was the first hire at the then unknown visual effects house Helium Productions, Hollywood, CA, which quickly grew to become one of the areas top animation boutiques. Looking for new challenges, Herbruck joined design/production company 3 Ring Circus, Los Angeles, CA, where he produced complex network design projects for Discovery Channel, Travel Channel and Telemundo, garnering a well-earned reputation for managing re-branding efforts and projects that involved the integration of live action and computer imagery.

Despite those successes, feature films were the brass ring for Herbruck. In 1996 he got his first taste – co-writing/producing the indie feature Turmoil, before moving to New York to become senior producer at The Attik’s New York office. It was there he would meet Beat Baudenbacher and begin a friendship and creative partnership that would lead to the formation of Loyalkaspar. In addition to design work for Rainbow Media/Voom, Outdoor Life network and ad agencies BBDO and Hill Holiday, Herbruck and Baudenbacher wrote their first screenplay, East of (T)here, which they plan to produce and direct themselves
