FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Magnet Media Hosts First Annual Zoom In Awards
Awarding Albert Maysles with Award for Lifetime Achievement

New York, NY (February 8th, 2005) – On Friday evening, Magnet Media, Inc. hosted The First Annual Zoom In Awards Announcement Party, where Magnet Media presented the First Annual Zoom In Award for Lifetime Achievement to Albert Maysles for his 50 outstanding years in documentary filmmaking. Magnet Media also awarded trophies and prizes for Best Student and Professional Cinematography, Editing and Graphics & Effects.

Introducing Albert Maysles, and presenting him with the Zoom In Award for Lifetime Achievement, were Richard Peña (Program Director, Film Society of Lincoln Center) and Barbara Kopple (two-time Academy Award winner, Harlan County USA and American Dream).
Presenting the Zoom In Awards for Best Cinematography, Editing and Graphics & Effects were Ellen Kuras (Cinematographer: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Blow), Evan Schechtman (Founder and CTO of Outpost Digital) and Ray Lambiase (Vice President, Art Production & Design at MSNBC).

The winners of the First Annual Zoom In Awards, as announced during Friday’s ceremony are:

- Erika Rand (Best Student Cinematography)
- Cristina Cingone (Best Student Editing)
- David Strick (Best Student Graphics&Effects)
- Guy Roland (Best Professional Cinematography)
- Christine Mitsogiorgakis (Best Professional Editing)
- Kristyn Hume (Best Professional Graphics&Effects)

Many of the finalists flew in to New York City for the Zoom In Awards, filling the room with the creative talent of today and tomorrow. Among others, these finalists included John Balkhi, M. Jason Mirch, Ryo Murakami, Pamela Scott Arnold, Ed Gutentag and Vincent Tsu.

Taking place at Mannahatta, a SoHo hotspot, the Zoom In Awards Party was attended by nearly five-hundred of the film/broadcast/software industry’s biggest names and companies, including representatives from Maysles Films, Antidote Films, InDigEnt, HBO, MSNBC, MTV, VH1, Avid, Rolling Stone, Millimeter Magazine, DV Magazine, Tekserve, Boris FX, BURST, and more.

With such a mix of attendees, Magnet Media successfully accomplished its goal for the Zoom In Awards, which was to create a venue through which members of the community could meet and share their work and experience, from the youngest of aspiring filmmakers to the biggest names in the industry. The Zoom In Awards provide a chance for the artists behind the scenes to step out of the studio and into the spotlight. The Zoom In Awards recognize the talented creative students and professionals, whose contributions to the film and television industry will define the "Future of Digital Production”.

The “Call For Entries” for the Second Annual Zoom In Awards will be announced in April, 2005.

About Albert Maysles

Maysles Films, Inc. has been a leading force in non-fiction film since the 1960's. Credited with the creation of "Direct Cinema," (a riveting, non-intervention approach to documentary filmmaking), Albert and David Maysles were among the first to capture life as it unfolded before their camera: without scripts, sets, or narration. Their films SALESMAN (1968), GIMME SHELTER (1970) and GREY GARDENS (1976) are among the all-time top documentary feature films. Maysles Films, Inc. has made more than three-dozen films. Their inspiration still comes from the drama of human experience and allowing people to be themselves. The films resonate with candor and authenticity.
